Who we are

Who are we?

Variations is a Anglo-French music and drama association based in Ribérac in the Dordogne region of South West France. It grew originally from a group of 16 people who shared an interest and delight in performing classical music but over the years has expanded its repertoire. It performs a range of choral presentations such as classical concerts with orchestra and soloists, smaller concerts, light entertainment and Christmas Carols in various venues in South West France. It has also performed in local fêtes and at private functions.

In September 2006, Variations was established under French law and are officially recognised and supported by the Conseil Général de la Dordogne & Union des Sociétés Musicales de la Dordogne.

It comprises two sections: Variations Ensemble Vocal and Variations-en-Scene.

Variations France choirThe Vocal Ensemble

The Vocal Ensemble is the classical section of Variations and comprises approximately 50 singers. We take great pride in our sociability and the delight we get from performing a broad spectrum of music.

Membership of the choir is through audition and payment of an annual subscritption.

Over the years, we have performed in a number of major concerts in various venues. All our Easter concerts  are accompanied by a full orchestra and professional soloists.

Rehearsals

The choir rehearses once a week (except during July and August) on Wednesday evenings in the Palais de Justice in Ribérac. Rehearsals start at 7.15pm and finish at 9.45pm. We have a break half way through for wine or soft drinks and a chat!.

Workshops

Every year we have a full day workshop on a Saturday in February in

preparation for our Easter Concerts that year. The workshop is held in
La Salle Polyvalente in Villetoureix (close to Riberac) and begins at 09,30
and ends usually around 16.00 with breaks for coffee and lunch.

In the morning we practise in our sections and focus on particular
pieces in our repertoire. In the afternoon we come together and
have our first complete rehearsal.

Next year 2018, we will be working on Handel's Nelson Mass and the Fauré Requiem,  the works which we will be performing in April of that year.

For more information on our past concerts, please click on History-of-Variations and Past Performances.

Variations-en-Scène

The first production was Old Tyme Music Hall in Villetoureix in April 2006 and since then we have staged some spectacular shows which have proved to be hugely popular especially when accompanied by delicious 'Fish and Chips' suppers!
